I am thrilled to be appointed Associate Artist for La Maison des Arbres, a major tree-planting project near Saumur in the Loire, France.
The booklet including my images recently arrived in the post.
The goal of La Maison des Arbres is to bring the global project “Demain, la forêt” to the territory of Greater Saumur, covering approximately 1000 km² and welcoming 100,000 inhabitants.
This project, “Tomorrow, the forest” aims to fight against global warming and the erosion of biodiversity by planting, throughout the territory, 10 trees per inhabitant per year. These plantations of very varied local species are directly inspired by the method developed over fifty years by the Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki in order to rapidly recreate forests rich in biodiversity.
Since March 2019 Patrick and the team have been planting sixteen species of trees according to the Miyawaki Method. The association La Maison des Arbres was created in 2020. It is chaired by Patrick Cahuzac accompanied by Lyla Petit and Albane Gellé.
