Rights of nature: If only forests could sue.

The smoke that Ellie Davies lets rise is intended to draw the eye away from the trees. The British photographer’s work rarely provides answers. “What is a forest?” asks Davies instead. “Is it the trees? Or is it the space between them?”

There is something wrong with our legal system, says Tilo Wesche. In conflicts, the human right to own things always trumps nature’s right to be protected. The philosopher is therefore calling for a legal revolution: rivers, forests and landscapes should belong to themselves.
